Instructions π¨βπ³
Step 1: Make the Patties
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until just combinedβdo not overmix to keep the patties tender.
- Form the mixture into 4-6 oval patties about 1/2-inch thick.
Step 2: Cook the Patties
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the beef patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned. (They donβt need to be fully cooked yet.)
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.
Step 3: Make the Gravy
- In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
- Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the mushrooms are golden brown.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onion and mushrooms, stirring well to coat them evenly. Cook for 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce and ketchup. Stir to combine. Let the gravy simmer for 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
Step 4: Simmer the Patties in Gravy
- Return the browned beef patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let the patties simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until they are fully cooked and tender. Stir the gravy occasionally.
- Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh touch. πΏ
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles to soak up the rich gravy.
