Gourmet Ham and Cheese Croque-Gâteau

① 🍳 Preparation of the béchamel sauce

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add the flour while stirring to obtain a roux without coloring.
Gradually pour in the milk while continuing to stir to avoid lumps.
Let thicken until you obtain a smooth and coating sauce.
Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
② 🍞 Assembling the croque-cake

Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Butter a cake tin.
Place a layer of slices of sandwich bread in the bottom of the tin.
Spread a third of the béchamel sauce on the bread.
Add a layer of grated cheese and pieces of ham.
Repeat these steps to form several layers, ending with the bread.
Cover the top with the remaining béchamel sauce and sprinkle generously with grated cheese.
