Recordings from air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport show that they tried to warn the helicopter pilots before it collided with the PSA Airlines (American Airlines subsidiary) plane. “Pat 25, do you have the CRJ (American Airlines flight) on your radar? Are you flying behind it?”, without any response. Then, “Oh! Oh my god!”

Bodies recovered, including two Russian skaters
According to a Pentagon official, three military personnel were on board the helicopter. The plane was coming from Wichita, Kansas, and was due to land in Washington at 9pm. Citing an “air incident”, the airport announced on the social network X that it had “suspended” all take-offs and landings. Police and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene. At this stage, 28 bodies have been found, the fire chief confirmed, while the Kremlin indicated that two former Russian world figure skating champions were among the victims. “We do not believe there are any survivors,” the fire chief continued.
