Revive Your Washing Machine Drawer: A Simple Guide to Clean and Eliminate Mold

Remove the Drawer: Start by taking out the washing machine drawer completely. Most machines allow for easy removal; simply pull it out and look for the release mechanism to detach it.

Soak in Hot Water: Fill a basin or sink with hot water. Add a tablespoon of baking soda and a 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Soak the drawer in this mixture for 15–20 minutes. This will help loosen any stubborn detergent buildup and mold.

Scrub Away the Mold: After soaking, use a scrubbing brush or an old toothbrush to gently scrub the inside of the drawer, focusing on areas where mold and soap scum have accumulated. The baking soda and vinegar will work together to lift the grime and mold.

Rinse Thoroughly: Once you’ve scrubbed all the surfaces, rinse the drawer with clean water to remove any residue from the cleaning mixture.

Clean the Tracks: Don’t forget to clean the tracks where the drawer slides in and out. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any buildup in these areas, as mold can sometimes hide here too.

Dry Completely: Use a microfiber cloth or towel to dry the drawer thoroughly. Leave it to air dry completely before reinserting it into the washing machine.

Serving and Storage Tips:

Air Out Your Washing Machine: After cleaning the drawer, it’s a good idea to run an empty wash cycle with hot water and a cup of vinegar to clean the interior of the machine and eliminate any lingering odors.

Keep Your Drawer Dry: To prevent mold from returning, always leave the washing machine drawer slightly ajar when not in use. This helps air circulate and keeps moisture from accumulating.

Routine Maintenance: Clean your washing machine drawer at least once every 3 months to avoid buildup. If you notice any signs of mold, address it immediately to keep your laundry routine fresh and mold-free.
