Toilet Flushing Weak and No Suction? Here’s a Tip to Help You Save Money

If your toilet is flushing weakly or lacks suction, try these simple steps to identify and fix the problem before calling a plumber.

1. Check the Flush Valve Impulse
The flush valve controls how water flows from the tank into the toilet bowl. Here’s how to test it:

Locate the Flush Valve:
Identify the flush valve in the toilet tank. One side is completely flushed, and the other is partially flushed.
Test Water Flow:
After the tank fills, use your finger to press down on the flush valve, observing whether the water level in the tank drops fully or partially.
Compare Impulses:
Flush the toilet a few times. If there is no difference in the toilet’s performance between pressing the flush valve and hitting the flush button, the flush valve may need to be replaced.
2. Adjust the Toilet Lid Button
If there is a difference in flushing performance, the button or handle might need adjustment. Follow these steps:

Turn the Two Screw Bars:
Adjust the screws under the toilet lid button by turning them a few times.
Replace the Tank Lid:
Place the lid back and test the button.
Feel for the Gap:
Adjust the screws to ensure the button’s gap is no more than 2–3 millimeters.
3. Check the Size of the Flush Rod
A flush rod that is too short may prevent the flush valve from fully opening.

Measure the Flush Rod:
Ensure the flush rod is the correct length. If it’s too short, water flow will be weak.
Trim the Rod Carefully:
Measure and cut the flush rod precisely to resolve the issue.
4. Inspect the Flush Handle or Button
A loose or broken flush handle/button can prevent proper flushing.

Tighten the Nut:
Check the fixed nut on the flush handle and tighten it if it’s loose.
Replace if Necessary:
If the handle or button is broken, replace it to ensure strong water flow.
5. Examine the Toilet Vent System
