Yolk Dough and Meringue Cake 🍰✨

Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a rectangular baking pan (9×13 inches) with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
Add the softened butter and mix until smooth.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the yolk mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until the dough comes together.
Add the vanilla extract (if using) and knead gently to form a soft, pliable dough.
Step 2: Assemble the Base Layer
Roll out the dough to fit your prepared baking pan. Press it evenly into the bottom of the pan.
If using jam or preserves, spread a thin layer over the dough base. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
Step 3: Prepare the Meringue
In a clean, dry mixing bowl, whip the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium speed until frothy.
Add the cream of tartar (if using), then gradually add the sugar while beating. Continue to whip until stiff, glossy peaks form.
Step 4: Add the Meringue Layer
Spread the meringue evenly over the dough base (or over the jam and nuts, if added). Smooth the top with a spatula for a clean finish.
