Prepare the brownie batter:
In a bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl, whisk the melted butter with the sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla, then mix.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Add the chocolate chips.
Prepare the cheesecake filling:
In a bowl, whisk together cream cheese, icing sugar and lemon zest (if using) until smooth and creamy.
Assemble the layers:
Pour about 2/3 of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Spoon the cheesecake filling over the brownie batter, smoothing slightly to create a thin layer.
Add the remaining brownie batter in small amounts and use a knife to create a marbled effect.
