Increased durability Freezing eggs is possible, despite assumptions to the contrary. Refrigerated eggs only last about three to five weeks, which is not very long. However, they will retain their quality for at least six months and possibly longer if frozen properly. By doing so, you can ensure that you never run out of fresh eggs and reduce food waste. Methods of Freezing Eggs To freeze eggs, simply follow these steps: 1. Crack an egg into each ice cube tray. One egg should fit in each slot. 2. After placing the tray in the freezer, allow the eggs to freeze completely. The third step is to transfer the egg pieces to a freezer-safe container or bag once frozen. Remove them from the tray. Soak in cold water: Place the thawed egg whites in a plastic bag and seal it. Then soak it in cold water. Once every half hour, or until the eggs are thawed, change the water. This usually only takes a few hours, and is much quicker than using the refrigerator.
Use the defrost or low power option on your microwave to quickly defrost frozen eggs if you’re in a hurry. Eggs can be partially cooked if you’re not careful, so keep that in mind.
How to Use Thawed Eggs in Recipes
If you want to make scrambled eggs, thawed eggs are the way to go. Add salt and pepper, whisk, and cook in a skillet with oil or butter over medium-low heat until desired doneness.
Omelets: Thawed eggs can be used to create omelets filled with a variety of ingredients, such as cheese, vegetables, or ham. Prepare the pan by heating it. Beat the eggs and pour them into the pan. Add the ingredients. When the omelet is almost set, fold it in half.
When it comes to baking, thawed eggs work great in recipes that call for eggs. When making cakes, muffins, quiches, and other baked goods, simply substitute frozen eggs for fresh ones.
A variety of ingredients, including thawed eggs, vegetables, cheese, and meat, can be used to make frittatas, an Italian omelette. Place the beaten eggs in a pan that can be placed in the oven, top with whatever you like, and bake until the frittata is cooked.
